Selena La Reina by MAC Cosmetics- RUN Don’t Walk!

It’s nearly here. The moment we’ve all been waiting for (well idk about y’all but I definitely have been). The Selena La Reina collection will be launching on April 21, 2020 on maccosmetics.com at 11 a.m. EST. and I COULDN’T be more excited!

Selena Quintanilla, for those of you who don’t know, was a beloved Mexican-American Tejano singer. Unfortunately, her life ended abruptly in 1995 at the hand of one of her confidantes. Selena’s influence continues to break barriers within society and give people the confidence to be authentically themselves. As the Queen of Tejano, her style became a staple of the 90’s culture- you might commonly see her in the iconic red lip as well as her black winged eyeliner. In collaboration with the Quintanilla family, primarily her sister Suzette, MAC Cosmetics created a collection to celebrate Selena’s 25-year legacy. This collection is filled with lip lip lip and more lip products! Glosses, mattes, and liners, OH MY! And just WAIT until you see the packaging… inspired by her “IT look” the sparkling bustier!

Since the pre-sale of the collection launched a few weeks ago (and yes it did sell out within the day), I have already placed not one but two orders for these highly coveted items. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get my hands on a few of the products since they were quick sell-outs however everything will be restocked on April 21st which is when I plan to fill in the gaps in my orders. Obviously the collection hasn’t been released to the public so I don’t have any reviews available of the products yet but I intend to give my full reviews and thoughts once I receive my packages. I can’t WAIT to get my hands on these products. The names of each of the products bring out the best memories and influences from Selena, make sure to read them all.

As a Mexican-American woman who has quite strong Tejano roots myself, Selena has always held a special place in my heart. Growing up, wherever I was living at the time (trust me, that’s a whole other blog post), I remember dancing and singing along to her music during all special occasions, family gatherings, and summer nights in the backyard. This collection means more than just makeup items to me. It means that there will be items that have certain colours, hues, and shades that are suited for my skin colour. As this doesn’t happen often, it makes a point for the Hispanic community to have a sense of pride in. Having a true icon like Selena pave the way for other Hispanic and Latina women in more ways than just beauty means the absolute world and more. I encourage each and everyone of you to read up on Selena and her story because her influence did not leave this earth with her, in fact, it catapulted well into the 21st century. Her memory continues to live on in her music, fashion, beauty, and tradition.
